Spirit Of Offence

Spirit Of Offence

(This message was taught at an HMM Kingdom Queens and Kingdom Kings Gathering in 2021 by Sharyn Culp, Inspired by Holy Spirit).

LET ME SAY ON THE ONSET . . . IN JESUS WE CAN OVERCOME THE SPIRIT OF OFFENSE – WE CAN BEAT THIS THING. KEEP THAT FOREMOST IN YOUR HEARTS AND MINDS AS WE EXPOSE THE SPIRIT OF OFFENSE. AMEN. WE ARE BETTER THAN THIS AND THE SPIRIT OF OFFENSE IS NOT IN OUR BLOOD COVENANT JESUS PURCHASED FOR US. AMEN.

2 Corinthians 2:14 (KJV)
14  Now thanks be unto God, which always causeth us to triumph in Christ, and maketh manifest the savour of his knowledge by us in every place.

Psalm 119:165 (Amp) Great peace have they who love Your law; nothing shall offend them or make them stumble.

The peace of God will hold you steady when you are going through adverse circumstances.

Matthew 11:6 (KJV)
6  And blessed is he, whosoever shall not be offended in me.

AS WE EXPOSE THIS SPIRIT OF OFFENSE I WANT YOU TO CLEARLY UNDERSTAND MY INTENT IS NOT TO GIVE SATAN ANY GLORY OR CREDIT FOR WHAT HE CAUSES THROUGH THE SPIRIT OF OFFENSE BUT TO "EXPOSE HIM AND HIS TACTICS SO WE CAN EFFECTIVELY DEAL WITH THIS SPIRIT WITH BIBLICAL PRINCIPLES AND WALK IN VICTORY AS JESUS MEANT FOR US TO DO WHEN HE PAID THE PRICE FOR OUR FREEDOM ON CALVARY"! AMEN.

BEFORE WE GO ANY FURTHER LET'S MAKE A FAITH DECLARATION:

FAITH DECLARATION:THE KQ'S AND KK'S GATHERINGS ARE "AN OFFENSE FREE ZONE". I AM DOING MY PART AS I AM "AN OFFENSE FREE ZONE" IN JESUS' NAME. AMEN.

Since many times the Spirit of Offence is a result of jealously, let look at the spirits that operate with the strongman of jealousy:

  1. Jealously (Numbers 5:11-14)

Rage

Murder

Anger

Revenge

Competition

Suspicion

Much more (Proverbs 6:34-35)

NOW LET'S ADD OFFENCE TO THIS LIST - - -

We talked about if WHEN YOU CAST OUT the strongman of jealously then all the spirits that operate WITH IT BE CAST OUT WITH IT. ***(MUCH LIKE BOWLING – HIT THE HEAD PIN AND THEY ALL GO DOWN). THAT'S ENCOURAGING, ISN'T IT?

I looked up the definition of the word offense in  Greek and it means: wrong, infringement, violation, trespass, delinquency, misdeed

I SERIOUSLY DOUBT IF THERE IS A PERSON HERE WHO HASN'T STRUGGLED WITH THIS SPIRIT AT ONE TIME OR ANOTHER.  TO RECEIVE BIBLICAL HELP AND AID FROM THE HOLY SPIRIT LET'S DIVE RIGHT IN. JESUS PAID A DEAR PRICE ON CALVARY FOR US TO BE FREE FROM THIS SPIRIT OF OFFENSE. THIS MESSAGE IS TO HELP US GET FREE AND STAY FREE FROM THE SPIRIT OF OFFENSE.

Even though the Spirit of Offense falls under the Jealousy strongman, it brings with it the Spirits of Pride, Accusation, Strife and Bitterness. People with this spirit are easily offended and are compulsive complainers. The root to this spirit is insecurity; (same as jealously), and there is need for validation and respect from others to feel good about themselves. It doesn't take much to trigger this spirit. It could be someone disagreeing with them, an innocent statement made that is taken negatively or their need to believe that they are a victim (others taking advantage of or using them). Their spiritual growth is hindered because their focus is not on the Lord and their own spiritual growth but on what others are doing or not doing.

It is very difficult to have a healthy relationship with someone that is offended all the time. Offense is difficult to identify from within a person because pride will keep them from excepting there is a problem.

WE ALL KNOW THE ENEMY IS VERY CRUEL AND FULL OF HATE. LIKE A SALESMAN IT IS HIS PURPOSE TO MAKE A PRESENTATION TO YOU THROUGH OFFENSE AND STEAL THE WORD OF GOD OUT OF YOUR HEART. HE WANTS YOU TO OPEN A GATE IN YOUR EMOTIONS (YOUR SOULISH REALM) AND YOUR FLESH AND ALLOW HIM TO COME IN AND DAMAGE YOU THROUGH HURT, PAIN, HAVOC,  STRIFE, PRIDE, BITTERNESS, ACCUSATIONS, DESTROY YOUR RELATIONSHIPS, MARRIAGES, FAMILIES, CHURCHES/MINISTRIES, BUSINESSSES, HEALTH, FINANCES AND NATIONS, OUR WORLD. NOW THAT WE KNOW WHAT HE IS UP TO LET'S THINK ABOUT THIS:

BELOVEDS, WHEN WE AS PEOPLE OF GOD, ARE PRESENTED WITH A CASE OF OFFENSE FROM SATAN, WE HAVE A CHOICE WHETHER TO BE OFFENDED OR NOT. WE HAVE A CHOICE WHETHER TO "BUY" WHAT SATAN IS SELLING OR NOT. WE TRULY CAN REFUSE TO "BUY" THE OFFENSE SATAN IS SELLING, WE CAN REBUKE AND BIND THE SPIRIT OF OFFENSE . . . WE CAN HIT THE DELETE BOTTON IN THE SPIRIT . . . AMEN.

TO SAY THE LEAST, THIS SPIRIT IS A DANGEROUS, HARMFUL, DAMAGING, DESTRUCTIVE, AND SO DESERVING TO BE DESPISED.

LET'S ASK OURSELVES THIS QUESTION. IF WE CHOOSE TO RECEIVE OFFENSE AND NOT REJECT IT, HOW DO WE DO IT?

WE ACCEPT THE WORDS AND/OR BEHAVIORS INTO OUR SPIRITS, MINDS, AND BODIES AND SPEAK THE OFFENSE. WE KEEP TALKING ABOUT THE OFFENSE OVER AND OVER, REHEARSING AND NURSING THE HURT (REINFORCING SATAN'S ATTACK)  UNTIL THE OFFENSE  BECOMES ROOTED DEEPER AND DEEPER WITHIN US EVEN PERHAPS TO THE POINT OF BECOMING A ROOT OF BITTERNESS  WHICH CAN DEFILE US.

Hebrews 12:15 (KJV)
15  Looking diligently lest any man fail of the grace of God; lest any root of bitterness springing up trouble you, and thereby many be defiled;

THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS – A ROOT OF BITTERNESS CAUSES US TO VIEW EVERYTHING IN OUR LIVES FROM A DISTORTED PERCEPTION BECAUSE OUR "SPIRITUAL VISION" IS NOT CLEAR – IT IS NOT PURE, THERE IS DEBRIS IN IT, SPIRITUAL DARKNESS.

In Luke 17:1-5 Jesus was talking to His disciples about offenses and I found it very interesting as to what their response was to what He had to say.

Luke 17:1-5 (KJV)
1  Then said he unto the disciples, It is impossible but that offences will come: but woe unto him, through whom they come!
2  It were better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and he cast into the sea, than that he should offend one of these little ones.
3  Take heed to yourselves: If thy brother trespass against thee, rebuke him; and if he repent, forgive him.
4  And if he trespass against thee seven times in a day, and seven times in a day turn again to thee, saying, I repent; thou shalt forgive him.
5  And the apostles said unto the Lord, Increase our faith.

JESUS IS TELLING US IT IS IMPOSSIBLE BUT THAT OFFENCES WILL COME – SO WE ARE FOREWARNED THAT OFFENSES WILL COME, ARE WE NOT? SOUNDS TO ME LIKE THEY ARE NOT GOING TO GO AWAY BUT THE ISSUE HERE AND NOW TODAY IS HOW DO WE DEAL WITH THEM THROUGH BIBLICAL PRINCIPLES. I TRULY BELIEVE IN MY HEART HOLY SPIRIT WANTS TO HELP US OVERCOME THESE OFFENSES THAT ARE IMPOSSIBLE NOT TO COME AND TEACH US HOW TO WALK IN VICTORY AGAINST THESE ONSLAUGHTS OF THE ENEMY.

When Jesus told the disciples it is impossible but that offences will come but woe unto him, through whom they come, they knew beyond a shadow of a doubt it was going to take an increase in their faith to deal with this sensitive subject of offense that they could not overcome without an increase in their faith. Keep in mind these are the disciples that walked, talked, ate, ministered with Jesus on a day-to-day basis. IF THEY KNEW THEY NEEDED AN INCREASE IN THEIR FAITH TO HELP THEM WITH THE OFFENCES, THEN TO ME IT STANDS TO REASON WE NEED AN INCREASE IN OUR FAITH TO HELP US WITH THE OFFENCES THAT COME OUR WAY WHICH ARE FOR SURE INCREASING AS WE COME TO THE END OF THE AGE.  HERE'S WHAT JESUS SAID IS GOING TO COME TO PASS IN THE LAST DAYS AND WE ARE SEEING AN INCREASE WORLDWIDE.

Matthew 24:10-13 (GW)
10  Then many will lose faith. They will betray and hate each other.
11  Many false prophets will appear and deceive many people.
12  And because there will be more and more lawlessness, most people's love will grow cold.
13  But the person who endures to the end will be saved.

LET'S PAY SPECIAL ATTENTION TO THIS VERSE – VERY IMPORTANT!

Jesus also warned of the persecution of believers, some of whom would prove to be false disciples who would turn on one another.

Keep in mind it is not the person we are not  close to that has the potential to hurt us the most  - it is a family member, a best friend, a close business associate, a pastor or church leader, usually another believer, someone you have taken into your confidence and that you love at a deep level and that you trust.

Psalm 55:12-14 (KJV)
12  For it was not an enemy that reproached me; then I could have borne it: neither was it he that hated me that did magnify himself against me; then I would have hid myself from him:
13  But it was thou, a man mine equal, my guide, and mine acquaintance.
14  We took sweet counsel together, and walked unto the house of God in company.

The word reproach there means to blame or shame someone.

The word magnify (to make yourself larger when coming against someone)

In this case this was someone who David was close to . . . a believer blames or shamed him and came against him in great measure, It was someone close to  him, a guide, an acquaintance. Someone with whom he had taken sweet counsel together and walked into the house of God in company

Know for a fact that an offended person will eventually betray another if offence is not dealt with properly and a betrayal if not dealt with properly will turn to hatred.

Jesus also warned of the persecution of believers, some of whom would prove to be false disciples who would turn on one another.

Proverbs 18:19 (KJV)
19  A brother offended is harder to be won than a strong city: and their contentions are like the bars of a castle.

What did strong cities have around them? Walls. What were walls built for? They were built for protection. Those walls kept the people out who they though were against them and let in people who they felt were with/for them. That is exactly what an offended person does.

They built emotional walls around themselves. The New Testament calls them strongholds:

2 Corinthians 10:3-5 (KJV)
3  For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh:
4  (For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;)
5  Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;

Here we see we are back to doing some warfare. Amen.

Another thing we need to look at is that an offended person is hurt and doesn't want to get hurt again so many times they ISOLATE THEMSELVES TO PROTECT THEMSELVES. THEY SHUT DOWN EMOTIONALLY AND DO NOT GIVE OF THEMSELVES THE LOVE AND GIFTSS GOD HAS GIVEN THEM TO SHARE WITH THE BODY OF CHRIST. WHY, THEIR LOVE WALK IS BLOCKED. THEY WITHDRAW AND LIVE VERY GUARDED. WHY? BECAUSE THEY ARE NOT WALKING IN THE WORD AND ABIDING IN JESUS – THE WORD. IN LOVE. They are walking in offense and fear. Their faith is not in charge. Offense blocks faith and faith works by love. How can we share the love of Jesus if our faith and love walk is blocked?

ISOLATION DOESN'T NECESSARILY HAPPEN EXTERNALLY. IT STARTS ON THE INSIDE. THE PERSON IS BEING HELD CAPTIVE BY THEIR RESENTMENT, ANGER, HURT AND PAIN.

Another bad effect of the spirit of offence is that it can cause our love to grow cold – our love for God and for others.

Matthew 24:12 (KJV)
12  And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold.

I believe with all my heart the Bible teaches when we receive/walk in offence we are being disobedient which is sin. Why because we not walking in the Word - the love of God. Not towards God and not towards the other person with who we are offended.

Matthew 22:37-39 (GW)
37  Jesus answered him, "'Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.'
38  This is the greatest and most important commandment.
39  The second is like it: 'Love your neighbor as you love yourself.'

Loves endures long and is patient and kind; love never is envious nor boils over with jealousy, is not boastful or vainglorious, does not display itself haughtily.

It is not conceited (arrogant and inflated with pride); it is not rude (unmannerly) and does not act unbecomingly. Love (God's love in us) does not insist on its own rights or its own way, for it is not self-seeking; it is not touchy or fretful or resentful; it takes no account of the evil done to it (it pays no attention to a suffered wrong). It does not rejoice at injustice and unrighteousness, but rejoices when right and truth prevail.

Love bears up under anything and everything that comes, it ever ready to believe the best of every person, its hopes are fadeless under all circumstances, and it endures everything (without weakening).

Love never fails (never fades out or becomes obsolete or comes to an end).

This  "Love" we are talking about here is not natural love, this is the agape love of God that He put in us when we were born again. You can see all the fruits of the spirit in love. God's love is a supernatural process. If we have been spending time with the Lord, abiding in Him, then offence cannot attach itself to you and take root.

This "Love" is not self-seeking – The love of God in us does not insist on its own right or its own way.

This "Love"  is not fretful or resentful . . . have you thought about the term "he hurt my feelings?"  That is exactly what happened -- you are being moved by your senses . . . Love, the real love of God within us takes  no account to the evil done to it . . . this Love, God's agape love in us would not receive offence, bitterness, resentment, unforgiveness,-- if you pay no attention to a suffered wrong . . . In this Love, the real Love of God, you go free.

This supernatural love of God is so powerful that you don't have to get your feelings hurt. You can take the high road, rise above the offence and it will run off of you like a water runs off a duck's back. Amen. This Love, God's love is so strong that what other people do does not have to put you in bondage. This Love will keep you out of offence. Amen.

LOVE NEVER FAILS.

Remember, Satan's presentation is to "steal the Word of God out of your heart" and plant itself in you where the Word was.

What about if we are mad at God?

How about when bad things come to pass in our lives and God allowed them to come to pass? How about when we are praying for a loved one to be healed and God heals them by taking them home instead of healing them this side of heaven? Do these earthly circumstances justify us being offended – angry at God and allowing our love to grow cold.

No doubt there are times we need to repent, ask forgiveness for being mad at God,  and get our hearts right where our relationship, THE MOST IMPORTANT RELATIONSHIP IN OUR LIVES IS PROPERLY ALIGNED.

What about offending God? Again, we need to repent, ask forgiveness for offending God and get our hearts right where the MOST IMPORTANT RELATIONSHIP IN OUR LIVES IS PROPERLY ALIGNED.

JESUS KNEW WHAT IT WAS FOR PEOPLE TO BE OFFENDED AT HIM AND LEAVE HIM.

John 6:47-66 (KJV)
53  Then Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except ye eat the flesh of the Son of man, and drink his blood, ye have no life in you.
54  Whoso eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, hath eternal life; and I will raise him up at the last day.
55  For my flesh is meat indeed, and my blood is drink indeed.
56  He that eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, dwelleth in me, and I in him.

57  As the living Father hath sent me, and I live by the Father: so he that eateth me, even he shall live by me.
58  This is that bread which came down from heaven: not as your fathers did eat manna, and are dead: he that eateth of this bread shall live for ever.
59  These things said he in the synagogue, as he taught in Capernaum.
60  Many therefore of his disciples, when they had heard this, said, This is a hard saying; who can hear it?
61  When Jesus knew in himself that his disciples murmured at it, he said unto them, Doth this offend you?
62  What and if ye shall see the Son of man ascend up where he was before?
63  It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life.
64  But there are some of you that believe not. For Jesus knew from the beginning who they were that believed not, and who should betray him.
65  And he said, Therefore said I unto you, that no man can come unto me, except it were given unto him of my Father.

66  From that time many of his disciples went back, and walked no more with him.

What about when God tells you to witness or share His love with someone and they do not receive it and turn on you in ugly ways? Do we become offended at God? Sure, these things hurt us when people turn on us for the cause of Christ but does that justify us getting mad at God?

That's exactly what the enemy wants --- He want to divide us from our God and cause us to be derailed in our walk with God and in fulfilling our destiny.

This hurts, really hurts if we receive it but we need to ask ourselves - So whose battle is it? The ANSWER: It is God's and they will find themselves fighting against God.

2 Chronicles 20:15 (KJV)
15  And he said, Hearken ye, all Judah, and ye inhabitants of Jerusalem, and thou king Jehoshaphat, Thus saith the LORD unto you, Be not afraid nor dismayed by reason of this great multitude; for the battle is not yours, but God's.

Acts 5:39 (YLT)
39  and if it be of God, ye are not able to overthrow it, lest perhaps also ye be found fighting against God.'

The scriptures have quite a lot to say about troubles between brothers and sisters in Christ. It is my belief we need to examine the scriptures in light of Holy Spirit, fast and seek God as to which path He would have us follow. We need to carefully discern what God would have us to do carefully as after all the other person and we belong to Him. This is not just about us, it is about God's kingdom establishment and us fulfilling our destinies for Him. Amen.

For one plan of action Proverbs 19:11 tells us God gives us one of His plans -  He wants us to overlook a transgression, an offense, entirely and just let it go right then and there.

Proverbs 19:11 (KJV)
11  The discretion of a man deferreth his anger; and it is his glory to pass over a transgression.

There are other times I believe Holy Spirit will lead you to be still and hold your peace and let Him work things out in the other person's heart and in your heart.

Exodus 14:14 (KJV)
14  The LORD shall fight for you, and ye shall hold your peace.

At other times I believe Holy Spirit gives us one of the following directives. Again, I feel it is necessary to fast, pray and seek the path God would have us take in bringing reconciliation to the relationship.  Keep in mind the other person is hurting too. Esteem the person highly with an attitude of love and forgiveness.

Matthew 18:15-17 (NKJV)
15  "Moreover if your brother sins against you, go and tell him his fault between you and him alone. If he hears you, you have gained your brother.
16  But if he will not hear, take with you one or two more, that 'by the mouth of two or three witnesses every word may be established.'
17  And if he refuses to hear them, tell it to the church. But if he refuses even to hear the church, let him be to you like a heathen and a tax collector.

Matthew 5:22-24 (KJV)
22  But I say unto you, That whosoever is angry with his brother without a cause shall be in danger of the judgment: and whosoever shall say to his brother, Raca, shall be in danger of the council: but whosoever shall say, Thou fool, shall be in danger of hell fire.
23  Therefore if thou bring thy gift to the altar, and there rememberest that thy brother hath ought against thee;
24  Leave there thy gift before the altar, and go thy way; first be reconciled to thy brother, and then come and offer thy gift.

Luke 17:3-4 (KJV)
3  Take heed to yourselves: If thy brother trespass against thee, rebuke him; and if he repent, forgive him.
4  And if he trespass against thee seven times in a day, and seven times in a day turn again to thee, saying, I repent; thou shalt forgive him.

After we pray and decide it is the will of the Lord for us to go to your brother  we need to go in a spirit of love and not in a spirit of condemnation and blame. If we go in a spirit of accusation and play the "blame game" if his spirit is shut down against us already, he will just shut his spirit down even more against us and we will accomplish absolutely nothing. On the other hand if we go in a spirit of love led by Holy Spirit making sure our heart is right many times a person's spirit will be open to reconciliation and the relationship can be restored.  Satan lost again. Amen.

WHAT ABOUT IF YOU ARE OFFENDED AT YOURSELF? WE NEED TO FORGIVE OURSELVES.

For years Troy and I were blessed to have an intercessor who shared with me how Holy Spirit told her to handle offences. She was a person who refused to be offended. She shared with us when the enemy attempted to offend her she would throw that offence like a hot potato right back and him and not receive it.

One thing God taught me one night with when we had our church and a lady came into the service offended and mad at me to simply apply the blood of Jesus to her in my spirit and before long she acted just as nice as could be. That spirit of offence had no defense against the blood of Jesus. Amen.

Keep in mind you cannot get free until you admit you are offended. Ask God to help you.

Acts 24:16 (KJV)
16  And herein do I exercise myself, to have always a conscience void of offence toward God, and toward men.

We must crucify our flesh. Keep in mind you cannot wound or hurt a person that has died to themselves. To do this we must take the offenses to the cross and leave them there, hanging them on the cross as Jesus did and not allow them to take root in us causing us, others and the Kingdom to suffer damage.

Galatians 2:20 (KJV)
20  I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.

If we have sinned and received offence, then God in His grace and mercy has given us His redemptive plan through Jesus. Amen.

Let's give this some thought? JESUS EXTENDED GRACE TO US. DO YOU THINK WE CAN EXTEND GRACE TO THOSE WHO HAVE OFFENDED US? YES, IN HIS GREAT LOVE!

Matthew 6:14 (KJV)
14  For if ye forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you:

Luke 23:34 (YLT)
34  And Jesus said, `Father, forgive them, for they have not known what they do;' and parting his garments they cast a lot.

Jesus forgave us right then and there.

Please do not misunderstand me. I am not being unsympathic to the hurts and damage you have experienced in your lives. It would be cold-hearted to do so. Believe me, Jesus knows better than anyone all about your hurts and all the damage you have suffered. He has walked your journey with you.

Hebrews 4:14-16 (KJV)
14  Seeing then that we have a great high priest, that is passed into the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our profession.
15  For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin.
16  Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.

Please consider this - Is what has been done to you worse than what was done to our Jesus? He forgave. He let the offences go. Can you?

Matthew 5:44 (KJV)
44  But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you;

This is God's way . . . ABIDING IN JESUS AND WALKING WITH HIM IN THE WORD WILL GET US FREE AND KEEP US FREE. AMEN. LET'S DO IT HIS WAY! AMEN.

 John 8:36 (KJV)
36  If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed.
